Class Specifications
The new Morgan Hunter Seat Equitation Cup class is for Hunter Seat Junior Exhibitors 17 years of age or younger and is designed for those riders to showcase their overall, well-rounded horsemanship skills. The class will be conducted in two phases: rail work and pattern work.
Rail Work Phase
Entries are to enter the ring at a trot
and are to be judged both ways of the ring at the walk, trot, and canter. At the
canter, entries must always be on the correct lead. The reverse may be executed
by turning either toward or away from the rail. Higher points will be award to
the rider whose Rail Phase displays the greatest level of creativity &
execution.
Pattern Work Phase
After the rail work is completed, the top
six (6) riders will be called from the line-up and retired to one end of the
arena. The remaining riders are excused. The top four (4) riders are each then
called to perform an individual pattern designed to showcase their particular
talents.
The Pattern Phase will consist of a pattern demonstration entirely of the rider’s choice. Upon an audible signal, the rider must acknowledge the judge and then begin their pattern demonstration. Their pattern must be no less than 60 seconds and no longer than 90 seconds in length. At the 60 second point an audible signal will sound letting the rider know that they have reached the minimum required time and the rider may continue to ride for an additional 30 seconds if they choose. Once the rider has reached the 90 second limit a second audible signal will sound and at that point the rider must halt, face and acknowledge the judge, then retire to the end of the arena.
Each rider's pattern demonstration must include a walk, posting trot, and canter, in both directions. Riders may incorporate any additional demonstrations, (simple or flying changes of lead, halt, back, leg yield, work without stirrups, etc) at their own discretion. Riders who fail to execute the required gaits or movements will receive a deduction of points from their score in the pattern phase at the judges discretion. Higher points will be award to the rider whose test shows the highest level of creativity and execution of movements. If the rider completes their pattern phase before the 90 second audible signal, the rider should halt and face and acknowledge the judge to signify that their test is completed.
The order of go will be determined by the placings established from the rail work. Exhibitors will perform one at a time, in reverse order. After the individual workouts are completed, the overall class placings are announced. The judge’s decision should be a 50 - 50 analysis of the rail work and the individual tests.
